Is your skin Dry or Dehydrated?
Yes, that’s right! There is a difference! And this is where so many of us go wrong, Dry, and dehydrated are two different terms often used together; but what dry skin and dehydrated skin need are very different.
So how do you know the difference between the two:
Dry Skin
Dry skin is a skin type (unlike dehydrated skin which is a skin condition, more on that to come) like combination, sensitive and oily. It can be caused by ageing, hormones, or genetics, and basically it just means that your skin does not produce enough oil. On the upside those Dry skin gals among us tend to not get breakouts, and rarely struggle with shiny, oily skin and spots.
Look to add oil rich products to your routine and avoid using anything to harsh that can strip you of natural oil. Use a gentle exfoliator. Our hydrogel range feel extra soothing on dry skin, we recommend our Collagen Hydrogel face sheet mask which contains Argan Oil, a hydrating oil comprised of essential fatty acids, including Omega oils, linoleic acid and oleic acid, and vitamin E, a powerful antioxidant. These components of argan oil serve as emollients, attracting and retaining moisture in the skin
Dehydrated Skin
Dehydrated skin is a skin condition. It is caused by external factors (think: heaters, over exfoliation, chilly weather, or wind; you will notice it more when the seasons change). If your skin is dehydrated you will probably notice your skin feeling tight, flaky, and any of those pesky lines will look more prominent. But unlike dry skin, you are not immune to shine or oiliness, so you could also be dealing with congestion and breakouts. (Aren’t you the lucky one!)
While dry skin wants oil, dehydrated skin wants water. Inside and out! So, up your water intake, and give some hydrating products a go. You will want to look for ingredients like Hyaluronic Acid it is a super hydrator, and it can help if you apply it to damp skin, for the best results. Our Youthfoil mask contains a double dose of Hyaluronic Acid
And one last thing, since dehydration is a skin condition every skin type can be dehydrated at some point. Which means it is very possible for skin to be both dry and dehydrated. Fun times!! If this is you, then you will require a combination of water and oil-based skincare to keep your skin happy and plump.
